Patrick Carroll

MSc Physiotherapy | BSc Sport & Exercise Sciences | Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist

Patrick is a specialist musculoskeletal physiotherapist with 9 years of experience that spans the National Health Service in the UK, private practice in London and Cork and a number of sports teams.

An undergraduate degree in Sport and Exercise Sciences in the University of Limerick gave Patrick an excellent foundation in human movement and he developed this knowledge by working in Melbourne, Australia as a strength and conditioning coach and personal trainer. This work increased Patrick’s interest in helping people struggling with injury and confirmed his thoughts on pursuing a physiotherapy career.

This led to completing an MSc in Physiotherapy at the University of Essex and since then Patrick has worked across varied physiotherapy settings, most recently leading a team of senior physiotherapists at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust which is a large teaching hospital. While in this post Patrick also completed a further postgraduate MSc module in Neuromusculoskeletal Triage.

Patrick has been based in Ballincollig since October 2019 and the clinic is now well established. Liaising closely with local GP's, consultants and strength and conditioning coaches who refer patients to the clinic is a key part of Patrick's service.

Establishing an accurate diagnosis, providing evidence based advice and clearly outlining a treatment plan is central to Patrick’s philosophy. He believes empowering patients and promoting active involvement in the recovery process as soon as possible leads to the best results and usually with fewer appointments needed.

Patrick believes leading a healthy lifestyle improves his practice and competing in races on the roads and trails keeps him training regularly. Last year he completed in the Paris Marathon and this year he will tackle the Manchester Marathon. On the trails Patrick has competed in the Ballyhoura Mountain Marathon and the Kerry Way Ultra Lite. Patrick regularly strength trains to prepare for these events and the role of strength training in running is an area of special interest.  Patrick has also played hurling, Gaelic football and soccer in Cork and managed a few games of Australian Rules football in Melbourne!
